After you have consulted the AQIS's ANIMEX website, contact us at Manuka Veterinary Hospital and make arrangements for all of the necessary pre-export tests, treatments and inspections. Some requirements vary from country to country, but our staff are quite conversant with the requirements of most countries. If the requirements for your country of destination are not available on the ANIMEX site and we are unable to advise you on the requirements, you will need to contact the government of the relevant country via their local embassy or high commission. In that event, we have provided a list of Embassy and High Commission contact details in the ACT.
The United Kingdom now offers a Pet Passport system, which negates the need for your animal to spend a lengthy period in quarantine on arrival. In order to take avantage of this scheme, you must undertake a number of additional tests in Australia before leaving. These tests must be commenced more than 8 months before departure. For detailed information, visit our Pet Passport Scheme page, which includes a link to the relevant British Government website.
You are required by legislation to lodge a "Notice of Intention to Export" form with AQIS at least 7 working days prior to your date of export. Manuka Veterinary Hospital will supply you with a copy of this form. It can be picked up from our surgery in Griffith, or, alternatively, we can fax, e-mail or mail it out to you or you can download it directly from this web page. (Click to go to the form.) The form must be filled in clearly and faxed to us on (02) 6232 7725 or e-mailed with sufficient time to allow us to check the details and forward it onto AQIS within the required time limit.
Once all of the veterinary requirements for your country of destination have been completed and your departure dates have been finalised, it will be necessary to make a final appointment for the day prior to departure. A final examination/inspection will be carried out on your pet to determine whether the Animal Health Certificate can be issued.
Contact Tracey Scougall at AQIS in Canberra on (02) 6272 4581 or via e-mail to arrange an appointment for the issuing of the International Health Certificate and Permit to Export. This needs to be done on the same day as the final examination at Manuka Veterinary Hospital. For general enquiries, contact AQIS on 1800 020 504 (free call within Australia) or +61 2 6272 3933.
The certification of all export documentation will be conducted at AQIS' Canberra Office (Animal Programs Section), Edmund Barton Building, Broughton Street, BARTON ACT. A fee of $75 (separate to any testing costs) is payable directly to AQIS at the time of certification. However, this fee may be higher for larger consignments or more protracted preparations (call to confirm cost before attending AQIS). The preferred payment method is by cheque or credit card, but you will need to provide identification. Payment by cash is only possible if you can provide the correct money, as change cannot be given. Other fees may be applicable for some destinations, eg. where there are costs associated with the translation of documents. Contact AQIS for further details.
